When you do work for your small business using text files saved in the DOC format on your Mac, you may need to convert them into JPEG image files. For example, you want to provide information to people, but you want to prevent them from copying or editing the text of a document. Instead of emailing the DOC file or posting it on your company’s website, you can easily convert it to a JPEG file with applications that come already installed on your Mac.

1. Right-click the DOC file, then click “Open With” from the pop-up menu, and then click “TextEdit” to open the text file with Apple’s native TextEdit word processing application.

2. Click “File” from the TextEdit menu, and then click “Print.” Click the “PDF” drop-down menu, and then click “Save as PDF.” A dialog box appears. Type a name for the document, click a location on your Mac where you want to save the PDF and then click “Save.”

3. Right-click the PDF file you just created, then click “Open With” from the pop-up menu, and then click “Preview” to open the PDF with Apple’s native PDF and image viewing application.

4. Click “File” from the Preview menu, and then click “Save As.” A dialog box opens. Type a name for the file, then click a folder on your Mac where you want to save the JPEG file. Click the “Format” drop-down menu, and then click “JPEG.” Click “Save” to save the file as a JPEG image file.
